JANE SMITH
MEDIA: Watercolour, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, vector illustration
SUBJECT MATTER: Animals, portraits and landscapes
BACKGROUND
Jane has a BA(Hons) and Masters degree in information design from the UK where she worked for twenty years for top London design and advertising agencies. She has lived in New Zealand for six years and works as an artist, illustrator and graphic designer.
Jane says:
"I love animals and very much enjoy portrait work – especially trying to capture a character that maybe only their owner can see! Light and its effect on the landscape fascinates me and the quality of light here is extraordinary so I tend to choose subjects in interesting weather conditions."
Jane also works as an illustrator, principally on computer-generated commissions (which Jane says are far easier to change!) and has been published in the UK and here in NZ.
Jane has exhibited her work at the Selwyn Art Week, where she was runner-up best-in-show, The Lyttelton Art Gallery and her work has been published in the Arts Canterbury publication
Jane is one of the Trustees of Stoddart’s Cottage, and she designs the publicity artwork for Stoddart’s Cottage and helps to organise the larger events. She, like all the Trustees of the Cottage, works voluntarily for the Trust.
