MEDIA: Paua
SUBJECT MATTER: Flower Brooches, Stems, and Accessories
A mainly self taught Crafter, Fi (Feebs) does have experience with Silversmithing to a mid level. When she sees something that inspires her, Fi engineers it and creatively takes her own interpretation of it.
Fi says:
“Nature and the natural colours in paua shells have always provided me with such inspiration and five years ago I developed my Paua flower brooch which was incorporating my other love of the shape of simple flowers.“
Fi says she can spend hours trawling through kilo’s of paua to get just the right combinations and sizes for her petals. This, she says, enhances the product she crafts.
Two years ago she developed stems for her paua flowers for a way to fund raise for a project in a Cambodian orphanage with which she has become actively involved.
Fiona says of her aim:
“I am hoping to turn this into a fundraising flower to help other people go over to help the projects of their choice.”
You can see more about the Paua flower stems on her blog sites

Fiona sells her Paua brooches and Stems mainly through Little River Gallery, Bank Peninsula and a small amount of the basic style brooch through Golden Fleece in Arrowtown. She has raised money through her sales and craft fairs and has successfully exhibited several times at Stoddart’s Cottage.
As a result of her sales, Fiona and another successful Cottage exhibitor have recently visited the Cambodian orphanage to help the children acquire jewellery making skills, which the children are now actively selling in Cambodia.
